At what juncture is the TypeScript compiler commonly used to generate JavaScript code?

Is typescript primarily used as a pre-code deployment tool or run-time tool in its typical applications? If it's a run-time tool, is the compiling done on the client side (which seems unlikely because of the need to send down the compiler) or on the server side (potentially as a first-hit and cache type scenario)?

Answer №1

The completion of the build process should result in the creation of finalized Javascript files that are ready for deployment.

Answer №2

You can enable TypeScript's "Compile on Save" feature in Visual Studio by accessing the project options within TypeScript Build settings.

Answer №3

When it comes to maximum portability, typescript is compiled down to es3 by default. The compilation process takes place client-side during the build process, as LIoyd pointed out.

Although Typescript is primarily used for compiling, both Chrome and Firefox offer the ability to perform run-time debugging on the original source files.

Answer №4

Typed languages are designed to detect syntax and type errors before the code is run, during the process known as 'compile-time'. This allows for early feedback while coding, usually triggered by saving the file to address any issues.
