Creating an array of objects with string keys in JavaScript can be achieved by defining an array

In order to simulate a response from the server, I would like to use keys such as 1.0.0 instead of default indexes. This will result in something like the example below:

https://i.sstatic.net/JUzjf.png

I attempted using

{ 'versions': [ '1.0': { 'name': 'file-system'  } ] }
However, this did not work. I also tried:
{ 'versions': [ 1.0: { 'name': 'file-system' }  ] }
with the same outcome.

I am aware that there is a more manual way of achieving this.

let dummyResponse = {};
        (dummyResponse as any).versions = {};
        (dummyResponse as any).versions['1.0'] = { 'name': 'val'};
        (dummyResponse as any).versions['1.5'] = { 'name': 'val1'};
        (dummyResponse as any).versions['2.0'] = { 'name': 'val2'};

Thank you

Answer №1

It seems like the issue lies in attempting to insert into an array a value that is not of type int, string, or object.

To resolve this problem, make sure to include the {} as shown in the following solution:

{ 'versions': [ { '1.0': { 'name': 'file-system'  } } ] }

:)

Answer №2

If you're looking to store different versions without using keys in an array, consider the following structure:

{
 versions': [
  {
    'version': '1.0',
    'name': 'file-system 1.0',
  },
  {
    'version': '1.1',
    'name': 'file-system 1.1'
  },
 ]
}

Answer №3

Essentially, it's best to avoid using a list in this scenario.

const versions = {'1.0' : {'name': 'file-system 1.0'}, '1.0.1': {'name': 'file-system 1.0.1'}}
versions['1.0']['name'] = 'file-system 1.0'
