Effortless code formatting with VS Code for TypeScript and JavaScript

Does anyone know of any extensions or JSON settings that can help me format my code like this:

if(true)
{
}
else
{
}

Instead of like this:

if(true){
} else {
}

Answer №1

To customize your editor settings, simply insert the following code snippet into your settings.json file.

{
  "[javascript][typescript]": {
    "editor.defaultFormatter": "vscode.typescript-language-features"
  },
  "javascript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForControlBlocks": true,
  "javascript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForFunctions": true,
  "typescript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForControlBlocks": true,
  "typescript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForFunctions": true,
}

Answer №2

I managed to find the solution by adjusting the JSON configuration:

"typescript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForControlBlocks": true,
"typescript.format.enable": true,
"javascript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForControlBlocks": true,
"javascript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForFunctions": true,

"typescript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForControlBlocks": true,
"typescript.format.placeOpenBraceOnNewLineForFunctions": true,
