Guide to sending a HTTP POST request with parameters in typescript

I need assistance sending a POST request using parameters in the following format:

http://127.0.0.1:9000/api?command={"command":"value","params":{"key":"value","key":"value","key":"value","key":value,}}

I attempted to do this but encountered an issue:

let command: HttpParams = new HttpParams();
let params: HttpParams = new HttpParams();

command = command.append('command', 'value');

params = params.append('key', value);
params = params.append('key', value);
params = params.append('key', value);
params = params.append('key', value);
command = command.append('params', params.toString());

this.httpClient.post('/api?', null, {
    params: command
});

An error occurred: 500 (Internal Server Error)

Answer №1

When the server responds with a 500 error code, it means there was an unexpected condition preventing it from fulfilling the request.

The HTTP 500 Internal Server Error is a server error response indicating such a condition.

If you're encountering this error, check your server-side code. Make sure to remove any unnecessary functions like ".toString()".

command = command.append('params', params.toString());

To debug further, access Chrome Dev Tools by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Supr and navigate to the Networks tab. Review all your API calls to ensure they meet the expected format.

Answer №2

Here is the solution:

1) To begin, I construct an object that includes the command information and parameters like this:

const obj = {
  cmd: 'command description',
  params: {
    property1: value,
    property2: value,
    property3: value,
  }
};

2) Next, I serialize this object into JSON using JSON.stringify():

// serialize object to JSON data
const jsonData = JSON.stringify(obj);

3) After serializing, I wrap the JSON data in HttpParams:

// wrap JSON data in HTTP parameter
let httpParams: HttpParams = new HttpParams();
httpParams = httpParams.append('cmd', jsonData);

4) Finally, I make a POST request with these parameters using httpClient. Like so:

this.httpClient.post<T>(url, body, {
        httpParams: httpParams
});

NOTE: This might not be the best solution, but it has been effective for me.
