Guidelines for establishing authentic headers on a SignalR connection

Can headers be set on the SignalR connection directly? I am aware of setting query string parameters but it is not secure enough for my specific scenario.

var conn = ($ as any).hubConnection();
conn.url = URL;
conn.qs = {
    "token": SECRET_KEY
};
conn.start()

Answer №1

After some experimentation, I managed to achieve this by implementing a jQuery Ajax prefilter, although it feels like a bit of a workaround. It would be great if there was a more direct solution within the SignalR framework.

$.ajaxPrefilter(function (request) {
    request.headers = request.headers || {};
    request.headers["authentication"] = API_KEY;
});
