Should private members be kept confidential during program execution?

While Typescript's "private" members may not be truly private at runtime, traditional closures maintain the privacy of their members. Is there value in ensuring that private members remain private during runtime?

Answer №1

Using the private modifier serves as a signal to other developers that the function is meant for restricted usage, either due to potentially dangerous operations it performs or simply to maintain clean public methods. Ultimately, its significance lies in developer awareness rather than affecting the functionality of the engine.

Answer №2

Whether a method or property is private/public only matters to the compiler.

Machine language doesn't recognize OOP, let alone access modifiers.

This applies to Typescript compiling into javascript as well. Developers don't need to worry about the specifics post-compilation in most cases; that's the job of the ts compiler. Compile-time warnings and errors should suffice.
