To retrieve the value of an element in the Response tab of the Network tab in Google Chrome's developer tools, I am looking to use JavaScript, TypeScript, or Cypress

Currently working on a cypress test case where I am struggling to fetch the requirement id value from results using JS/TS/Cypress. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

I've come across various posts and articles, but none of them address my specific issue.

Answer №1

It seems like your specific intention is a bit unclear to me, but if I've understood it correctly, there are several methods outlined in the Cypress documentation that can help you achieve this goal. One approach involves using the intercept command to monitor the request URL, then capturing and testing the response according to your requirements by providing a callback function or defining it with as(). This allows you to easily use the response whenever needed. For more detailed information, please refer to this link: https://docs.cypress.io/api/commands/intercept

Answer №2

To learn more about the cypress intercept feature, be sure to check out the official documentation. Here's a quick example that demonstrates how you can extract a value from a network response:

cy.intercept("GET", "*/tableformat*").as("getTable");
cy.get("<insert your locator here>").click() // perform an action that triggers the tableformat response
cy.wait("@getTable").its("body").then( res => {
  const requirementId = res.results[0].requirementId
  // Use the extracted variable as needed
})
