I find myself lacking knowledge about TypeScript. After reading through introductory articles, I fail to see any groundbreaking innovations that justify the widespread praise it has received.
[1] In terms of syntax, didn't JScript.net already provide all the capabilities of JavaScript/JScript, just on the .NET platform?
[2] Does TypeScript not rely on .NET or can it run independently of it?
Why didn't Microsoft promote JScript.net more? I understand it may lack some modern features, but it deserved better treatment.
This is not meant to spark a debate about programming languages. I am simply puzzled as to why the company had an existing tool (A) that allowed developers to convey their ideas in a certain way, only to then create a similar tool (B) with some differences that I, as a non-expert, cannot discern. It leaves me wondering WHY?
