Encountered a similar issue with node version 10.14.1.
Solved the problem by upgrading to node version 10.16.2.
Discovered the issue. The culprit was located in the subsequent line of code within jest.config.js:
testEnvironment: 'node',
After removing that line, the error was successfully resolved.
I encountered a similar issue where my testEnvironment needed to be set to node. The fix was to revert back to using "jest": "^24.9.0". It appears that there is a compatibility issue with the latest version of Jest when node is specified as the testEnvironment.
UPDATE
It seems that the issue has been resolved in Jest 25.2.2 according to this comment https://github.com/facebook/jest/issues/9538#issuecomment-604522345 I have not personally verified this yet.
If you want to include Jest type definitions in your tsconfig file, you can do so by adding the following code:
"include": ["node_modules/@types", "test/**/**.ts"],To add the types, simply install them using npm with the command npm install @types/jest

Provided a solution that worked for me. Despite confirming the correctness of @types and tsconfig, I continued to encounter an error. Ultimately, I discovered that the presence of spec and test within the exclude array in my tsconfig file was causing the issue. Once removed, the error vanished.
