Implement the Promise return type for a function in Angular

I'm looking to modify the following method to change the return type to a Promise or Observable:

basketItemNodes: TreeNode[] = [];

getBasketItems() {
  this.basketService.getAllBasketItems()
    .subscribe(
      res => {
        this.basketItemNodes = <TreeNode []> res;
      },
      err => {
        console.log(err);
      }
    );
    return this.basketItemNodes;
}

Any suggestions on how to achieve this?

Answer №1

To send back an Observable, avoid subscribing at this point. Instead, you can simply transform the response into <TreeNode []> and return it.

cartItemNodes: TreeNode[] = [];

fetchCartItems() {
    return this.cartService.getAllCartItems()
      .pipe(map(response => this.cartItemNodes = <TreeNode[]> response));
}
