Tips for preventing the need to input letters into a date selector field

Is there a way to prevent entering letters in a date picker field?

I'm currently utilizing bsDatePicker

I attempted using type="number", however I received an error message and was unable to choose a date

"The specified value "02/03/2020" is not a valid number. The value must adhere to the following regular expression: -?(\d+|\d+\.\d+|\.\d+)([eE][-+]?\d+)?"

Answer №1

To declare a variable as a date type, you can simply do the following:

public taskDate = new Date();

This code should be placed in your .ts file.

The following code needs to be included in your .html file:

<input type="text" readOnly class="form-control bsDatepicker"
    placeholder="Select Date" [(ngModel)]="taskDate"
    [bsConfig]="{ dateInputFormat: 'YYYY-MM-DD' }">

Make sure to include the readOnly attribute in your input element.

Answer №2

To prevent the keypress event, you can use the keypress event preventDefault() method.

Give this a shot:

<div class="col-xs-12 col-12 col-md-4 form-group">
    <input (keypress)="$event.preventDefault()"
     type="text"
           placeholder="Datepicker"
           class="form-control"
           bsDatepicker>
  </div>

Alternatively, you can also use the readonly attribute:

<div class="col-xs-12 col-12 col-md-4 form-group">
    <input readonly
     type="text"
           placeholder="Datepicker"
           class="form-control"
           bsDatepicker>
  </div>

Check out this example for reference.

Answer №3

Instead of using type="number" in your input field, consider implementing a pattern.

For example:

<input type="text" pattern="(0?[1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])/(0?[1-9]|1[012])/\d{4}">

Additionally, if you are setting the value of this input from a date picker, it's recommended to make this input field readonly.

Answer №4

If you're looking to solve the issue, simply utilize the date type:

<input type="date"
        [minDate]="minDate"
        [maxDate]="maxDate"
        bsDatepicker [(bsValue)]="yourDateValue">

Take a look at this example

Answer №5

If you want to filter out non-numeric characters from an input field, you can use the keyup event along with some JavaScript code:

<input onkeyup="this.value=this.value.replace(/[^\d]/,'')" >
