Verifying the length of arrays with Typescript index typing

Could someone please clarify why y.length in this particular example does not result in an error?

FolderDictionary is essentially a Record<string, Folder> where the key can be any string.

This allows you to call the length property on FolderDictionary, as well as any other string without causing a compile error.

In the second scenario with const x = {}, no type is specified so TypeScript infers it as type {}. This inferred type does not have a length property.

However, if an explicit type is added like

const x: Record<string, string> = {}
, then accessing y.length will not result in a compile time error.

It's important to note that in both cases, the outcome will be undefined since the key being accessed does not exist.
